Pieceful
Patches®
is the mother-daughter (and sometimes granddaughter) team of
Donna Haas and Lyn Steinmetz. We are located in West-Central
Wisconsin, where Donna has a quilt shop right in her yard (she's so
spoiled!).
About Donna...
She grew up in a large family in Central Wisconsin, full of spit and
vinegar. She married young and had a family of her own, sometimes
being a stay-at-home mom and other times working various places. She
could never sit still, and always had something to work on, whether a
knitting project, sewing clothes for the kids, or coaching the softball
team. While she contributed adequately to the family, she knew she was
capable of something larger. After a new marriage to "Saint
Tom" the opportunity presented itself for her to start her own
quilt shop. She opened Sew & Sew Quilts and Fabrics, a retail fabric
shop, and offered long-arm quilting and classes to the public. Donna
started small and worked hard to build the business into a comfortable
career. She and Lyn started designing quilt and wall hanging
patterns in 1995. In the process they brain-stormed the
concept for Sew Easy Triangles, and a new branch of business was born.
Now, in addition to her shop she has taken on Research and Development,
Marketing, Product Management, and Customer Service ( an impressive way
of saying she's pretty much a one-woman show). Tom remains very
supportive, dutifully hauling products and helping with packaging. They
frequently travel to large international Quilt Markets and Expos to
promote the Pieceful Patches® line of products.
About Lyn....
Lyn is the oldest sibling in a family of five brothers and sisters, all
of whom are now married and out of the nest. She grew up and graduated
from High School and went on to Secondary School for a medical
career, working a number of jobs before settling in Central
Wisconsin, where she met and married her husband Dave. She is very much
like her mother (the apple doesn't fall far from the tree) in that she
could not survive without being involved in a million projects. After
her two kids were born she bought a long-arm quilting machine also, with
the intention of slowly phasing out the medical job and being
self-employed. Due to circumstances beyond her control she needed to
keep the "real" job and downsize the quilting. By then Donna
had hit on the Sew Easy Triangles idea, so Lyn became the Information
Technology and Editing/Publishing part of the twosome. She writes the
patterns, books, and maintains the website, as well as free-lance
writing a monthly column for the Marshfield Piecemakers Quilt Guild
Newsletter. She and Dave are still happily married and have two teens
who need her to transport them to their various social events and
dispense cash on an "as needed" basis. Between
work, family, Pieceful Patches(R), 4-H, and quilt guild, her life is very
full and she wouldn't change a thing.
About Cicely...
Cicely is 15 now and has been surrounded by quilts and quilting
practically all her life. She has an awesome sense of color and
design and has drafted some patterns for Pieceful Patches(R).
She has entered quilts in competetive shows and
won prizes for two consecutive years. (Currently she has made more money
than her mother in show entries!) She's very knowledgeable about
the Sew Easy Triangles and frequently travels with Grandma to the shows
and Markets as Lyn's
"stunt double". It is uncertain whether she will
continue to maintain her interest in quilts, but it is very apparent
that she will never be idle.
