Other stuff we’re into..

Ok, I’m trying this again… The other day I worked on the site and managed to get a tutorial for big artwork on the site, but not on this page.  Today, I’m trying something a little different.

Here’s an idea for a fun birthday gift.  The person I am planning for is having a golden birthday, i.e. he’s turning 21 on the 21st.  You could do this for any birthday, it doesn’t necessarily have to be a golden one, and it certainly doesn’t have to be the 21st.  A word of caution though, you can be as expensive as you want to be, but really try to rely on your creativity to make it a sensible gift. I started with twenty one of just a couple of items, and it quickly turned into twenty one 21s. I have just two words for you– Dollar Store.

golden birthday
twenty one different things, 21 of each

Disclaimer: There are some items listed below that seem distasteful, tailor your package to your recipient.

Here are some suggestions:
First, a card that explains that these are all items that will help him now that he’s an adult in an adult world – I divided the items into categories:
Grocery items
  • soda (I didn’t realize I got diet, I will need to fix this) a 20 pack plus one can
  • adult beverages ( see disclaimer above) a 24 pack minus three
  • slim jims – they come in packs of 16, I bought two packs and combined 21 back into one box – protein for his diet
  • home baked or store bought cookies – packaged in a pringles can (21 cookies fit perfectly packaged with plastic wrap into three sets of 7)
  • instant oatmeal – 21 packages- breakfast is important
  • chips in fun size packages – they come 20 per big bag, I attached one more bag from the vending machine at work- he packs his lunch for school
  • ramen noodles – every student lives on these
  • gum
  • just wander in the grocery store and let your imagination wander

Entertainment items

  • 21 tealights and a candle holder for when he entertains a lady friend
  • dinnerware – 7 each styro plates, bowls, and sets of plastic utensils (dollar tree)
  • yes, I did include condoms – stapled to cards that say practice safe sex (disclaimer again)
  • “hi my name is…” cards – I made up some fake business cards that have cheesy pickup lines on them and made a little card holder – a joke, because he likes the ladies
  • fake money roll with a note to be financially responsible

Personal care items

  • dental floss picks (dollar store again)
  • band-aids
  • anti-bacterial wipes
  • vitamins or cough drops
  • Ibuprofen or some other pain reliever

Emergency items

  • zip-ties
  • nails with a hammer
  • safety pins
  • 21 buttons with needles and thread in a recycled gum container

And the final gift – 21 hershey’s kisses or hugs

All packaged in gold gift bags – don’t know what I’d do without that dollar store!
It’s amazing what you can come up with if you just give it some thought.  Any or all of the above items work, but there are soooo many more you can think up.  But I would always finish with the hugs and kisses – thanks to friends Ar and Sal for that suggestion.
